Super Bowl Sunday

All right folks it's Super Bowl Sunday and we are ready to roll. We've picked every side right in the playoffs and today we look to win our Super Bowl pick and finish the season off right.

Pitt +3 If you have the line at 2.5 I suggest buying the half point up to 3 as I think this will be a very close game and you might as well have the hook. I think this one is decided by 1, 2 or three today and you might as well pay a little extra for the insurance if you have to. Hats off to Green Bay as I think they've played some really good football to get to where they are. But the first point I will start with is who these teams have played to get here. Green Bay knocked off an Eagles team that was lacking a strong defensive unit, Atlanta who built a strong record in a weak division, and Chicago who has a very solid D but not much in the way of an offense. Contrast that with Pitt who knocked off the Baltimore Ravens, who many people thought would go the distance this year, after going down 21-7 in the first half. Then beating up on the Jets, who knocked off another team a lot of people thought would go the distance, and I'm glad they didn't, the Pats. So as far as who had the tougher road, I'll give the edge to Pitt. Secondly I think the running game is a huge advantage for Pitt in this game. Nobody runs on Pitt and I certainly don't think James Starks is going to be the first. On the other hand, Rashard Mendenhall looked great against the Jets and I think Pitt really makes an effort to pound the rock today, keep the clock ticking and keep A-Rod on the sidelines. The Jets defensive game plan is to stop the run at all costs and then worry about the pass, and they didn't slow down Mendenhall, and I think he gets his today. Big edge to Pitt in the running game. Finally we have the experience factor. Many players on this Pitt team have two rings and have played in the big game, whereas Green Bay has very little Superbowl experience. Rodgers has really played great and I tip my cap to him but Big Ben, love him or hate him, has two rings on his fingers and while its not always pretty in the stat book, he gets the job done. To me this game boils down to two great defenses, with the edge offensively going to Pitt because of their balance. If Rodgers can do it on his own against the best defensive unit in the league, God bless him, but I'll be backing Pitt tonight. The sixth seed is favored over a two seed by three, and now all of a sudden Green Bay is a public sweetheart? Give me the points. Best of luck to all.

Sunday NFL

All right folks I can't honestly say I'm really happy with the way the season has gone but we are rolling in the playoffs and hope to keep it going through the big game. Got some thoughts on today's game here goes:

Green Bay -3.5 Gotta roll with Aaron Rodgers here over Jay Cutler. Both teams have great defenses but I just think Rodgers is much more composed and fundamentally sound than Jay "my arm is better than John Elway" Cutler. Another factor I like is that some of the veterans on Green Bay like Jennings and Woodson remember losing to the Giants in the NFC Championship and if you have heard these guys talk about that game they said they thought they had no chance of losing. So I think they come in here today with the right attitude and I just think Rodgers is almost unstoppable at this point. I expected this line to be more like a pick 'em or even -3 in favor of Chicago for home field, but seeing it at 3.5 in favor of Green Bay to me is just begging for Chicago action...I'll take arguably the hottest team in football right now.

Steelers -3.5 Let's be honest folks beating the Colts and even the Patriots is just not that impressive. Sure NE finished the season strong but nobody can tell me that they have a championship caliber defense. Sure the Jets are a solid team but the Steelers have been here many times before and I just can't help but roll with Big Ben over Marky Mark Sanchez in the playoffs. Both QB's are facing very good defenses and I just can't say that I think Sanchez is going to fare well today. Throw in the fact that its nearly impossible to run on Pitt and I just don't think that Sanchez can win this game if that's what it comes down to. Give me the Steelers in this one.

Weekend Winners

OK folks tough loss on the National Championship. In my opinion bad coaching lost us that game but its really tough to sit there and say that either side was clearly the right play. Went down to the wire and really could have been won or lost. On to this weekend I like the card again and am looking to have a plus day in the books. Here's what I got:

Steelers -3 I think the extra week of rest is huge for the Steelers here, after Balty had to go on the road to Arrowhead and play the Chiefs who, despite getting blown out in the second half, fought hard for the first half of the game. I'm not a Rapistburger fan but I'll take him against Balty's D over Flacco against the Steelers D. Home field and an extra week of rest are enough for Pitt to cash the ticket in this one.

Green Bay +2 Tough to go against the Falcons at home I know but let's be honest, Atlanta is good but they rack up wins in a weak division. Carolina I don't need to tell you how bad they were this year, Tampa Bay seemed good but performed horribly against good teams and the Saints, well we just saw what happened to them. Green Bay may very well be the hottest team in football, awesome defense with Matthews and Woodson and Raji and Aaron Rodgers gotta love the guy. And whats more we might actually have a running game now...watch out for Green Bay folks. 24-21 GB

SUNDAY:

Chicago -10 So the Saints go marching in to Seattle as ten point favorites and lose on the field, now they go play a Chicago team that they beat during the regular season and they're ten point dogs? Seattle's gotta be the play right? Wrong. Chicago allowed six sacks on Cutler that game and have really shored up their O line play since that game. Cutler I don't like to give him any credit but he is maturing as a QB. Seattle at home and on the road is like night and day. Chicago is rested and hungry I think they put the wood to the Hawks...31-10 Chicago

Jets +9 Is this line a joke, folks? Everyone remembers the 45-3 shallacking the Patriots put on the Jets the SECOND time they played but they conveniently neglect to mention that the Jets WON the first time 28-14. Rex Ryan had the boys watching tape of the game they lost and everyone saw Brady pointing at the Jets sideline. I don't think I have to tell you how fired up the Jets will be. NE may very well be the best team in football right now but 9 in a playoff game against a team that runs well and plays good D, give it to me all day. Jets cover this inflated number.

BCS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Nice night last night going 2-0. Last game of the year and I have some thoughts on it.

Oregon +1 Lot of people like Auburn here and that's understandable. They do have Superman aka Scam Newton but Oregon just has so much team speed and I think its a tough matchup. Rolling with the more motivated team here which I believe is the Ducks.

Sunday late night

2-1 So far on the day. Would have been nice to grab the over but can't win 'em all. I like two plays on the night game:

BC +9 Well everyone saw Nevada beat Boise and they are all over their nuts now. I'm not. BC finished the season strong, and they happen to match up well with Nevada, as their strength is stopping the run, which is Nevada's strong suit. Not to mention the extra time should prove useful to prepare for the Pistol. Also, while BC does not have a prolific offense, they do run the rock well and I think they will do a good job of chewing up clock and keeping the ball out of the hands of Colin Kaepernick.

Under 55 As stated above BC does not have a great offense but runs it well, and they have extra time to prepare for the Pistol as well as a great run defense. Lots of running tonight and good D by BC keep it under the total.

Prediction: 20 17 Boston College

Sunday Football

All right nice day yesterday going 3-1. Pace picked up late in the Kentucky game but it was too little too late; not enough offense for the Wildcats without Hartline. On to today I have a few plays I like.

Baltimore -3 This one scares me a little but I think Baltimore runs it right at them and their playoff experience and all the offensive weapons they have prove to be a little too much for the Chiefs, though I think the Chiefs give them a good effort.

Green Bay +2.5 I know all about how Vick came in for the second half and led the Eagles back in the game but Capers planned for Kobb and I think today is a different story. Charles Woodson is one of the elite corners in the NFL and Clay Matthews might be defensive player of the year.

Over 47.5 With that said about Green Bay's D I still think the Eagles manage to put up a few points Vick is a weapon and so are McCoy and Jackson. However I think Rodgers also has a nice day for himself against an Eagles defense of which I am not particularly fearful.

Ok tough day last time out, PSU blowing the cover on a late garbage pick six touchdown, Bama laying 49 on Mich State despite shutting them down, and Michigan just a dud, bad play just should not bet teams with no defense like Michigan.

On to today I like four plays:

Pitt -4 Not like me to go with the Big East against an SEC squad but Hartline is out for Kentucky and that's a big loss. Tino Sunseri has come along pretty well throughout the season and Baldwin will likely be entering the draft now that the Stache is gone so look for him to have a big day. Dion Lewis has been contained pretty well but Kentucky does not excel in their run defense and I think Lewis may have a big game today.
Over 53.5 As I said Kentucky vulnerable to the run and I think Baldwin goes off today. Also Kentucky has plenty of athletes on the field especially Randall Cobb and I think we see a lot of scoring in this game.

Seahawks +10.5 I know I know, the only team with a losing record to make the playoffs but Matty H. is a veteran QB who has been on the big stage before and the game is in Seattle. Saints without Pierre Thomas and Ivory today and I think the lowly 7-9 Seahawks keep it within the number.
Jets +3 I know they didn't finish the season terribly strong but I think we see a Jets team that is out for revenge on a fraudulent Colts team. Lots of running and I think Manning makes a few mistakes today as he has done this season.

New Years Day Bowling

Ok SEC off to a disappointing start. Got four plays so far for today, may be back later with plays on the last two games

Northwestern +8 Grab it before it goes down even more line is dropping like a rock.
Penn State +7 As I said SEC off to a terrible start I know its Urban's last game but Joe Pa is no slouch and since McGloin came in at QB they have looked much better on offense. Rolling with the Nittany Lions.
Bama/MSU Under 52
Michigan +3.5 line has come way down, Denard is going to have a big day and Rich Rod's coaching tenure at Michigan is on the line here today.
